Making Your Application


  • Our Firefighter competition is open from Tuesday July 3, 2018 to Friday July 27, 2018 at 5:00 pm. Applications will not be accepted outside of these dates.
  • As this is a tri-municipal competition, each municipality hosts different stages of the process. The City of North Vancouver hosts the application stage. Contact information regarding the on-line application process is the City of North Vancouver’s Human Resources Department.
  • You must complete your application in one session. See Before You Apply to make sure that you are prepared before you begin your application..
  • All correspondence with you will be by e-mail. It is important that you register using an e-mail address that is accurate and that you check frequently. As e-mails may be sent to you from any one of the three municipalities, you may wish to check your system’s filter to ensure that you can receive messages from the, and domains, or system generated emails from
  • Once you are logged in, the system will guide you through the application process. Be sure to read the instructions and questions on each page fully and carefully.
  • The system aids you by extracting information from your resume in order to automatically populate some of the application fields. It does not however relinquish you of your responsibility to verify, and if necessary, change/improve the way the data is reported in the system to ensure that it is accurate, matches the requirements according to the instructions on that page, and accurately supports the contents of your resume.
  • Make sure that you have answered all questions on every page before you proceed to the next page. Some screens may require you to scroll down to see all questions and the “submit” or “next” button.
  • DO NOT use your browser’s “Back” button to return to a previous page.
  • The system will “time out” if there is no activity for 15 minutes. If the system times out or you navigate away from the page, contact us via the City’s Human Resources Department at 604-983-7349 or at We will respond as soon as possible and we will direct you whether to reapply or to continue with your application.
  • There are various mandatory fields contained in the on-line application process. You will need to follow the instructions provided on a particular screen/question/field to enable you to proceed. This might involve you selecting a response from various options, or entering text in a text box.
  • There is no option to review your application once you reach the final question. Be sure to validate the content of each screen as you move through the screens.
  • Once you have completed the on line application, you will know that you have successfully completed the application when you reach the screen “Your Application is Complete”.
  • Once you have registered on the career portal, you can click on “Update My Info” at any time, (top of the screen) to check/update your contact information and add documentation. If you add documentation after you have applied to our process, do not delete your original documentation. Any documentation that is uploaded is dated and we are able to identify multiple uploads.
  • You will be contacted by e-mail if you are shortlisted to participate in the written test to be held on Saturday August 11, 2018 at Parkgate Community Centre, 3625 Banff Ct, North Vancouver. Only candidates with the minimum required qualifications on Friday July 27, 2018 (and whose applications are regarded as complete on that date) will be considered for advancement to the written test.   • The on-line application system is not a responsive design. This means that you are unable to apply using a smartphone or tablet.
