Station Orientation

Station Orientation weekends will take place on September 30, October 1, 14 and 15, 2017. Shortlisted candidates are required to be available for all four days. Candidates will rotate between the three fire departments.

You will be notified by e-mail no later than Friday September 15, 2017 whether or not you have been invited to participate in station orientations. Further details about the process will be specified. A Waiver Form will be attached to the email. You will submit this document, duly completed, when you arrive at the first day of Station Orientation.

There will be various physically challenging components to the Station Orientation days at the District of North Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver.

The following particular components will be included:

City of North Vancouver: Aerial Ladder Climb

District of West Vancouver: Swim Test

  • Wearing swimwear: Swim 200m
  • Wearing jeans and a t-shirt: Complete a 50m rescue swim
  • Wearing jeans and a t-shirt: Tread water for 5 minutes
  • Wearing jeans and a t-shirt: Recover a brick from the 12 foot depth

District of North Vancouver: Confined Space
